The value of play

There's so much you can play with when it comes to design—a variety of tools and tricks available for us to try. I like to dabble here and there on free projects and exercise my creativity to learn new skills or simply for the joys of design.

creative coding

coding

Here, I learned how to code using Processing and take a crack at being creative with code.

I consider myself a systems thinker that likes to think within a set of rules and level of consistency so I felt very lucky to learn from the eclectic Joshua Davis himself.

He was a refreshing reminder to let loose and just have fun making cool sh*t.

I found myself dancing to Chappell Roan's music over the summer so I decided to create something out of it.

This was all made possible with code :)

motion design

design

Playing with motion allows for a new way to communicate. The principles are simply different compared to designing something static.

I thought this was a great opportunity to animate a quote that's allowed me to push forward when I find myself afraid to simply try.

TOOLS
Adobe After Effects

It's a shame I wasn't able to go to Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival. Nevertheless, I thought about animating a simple poster based on Mitski's song, "Goodbye, My Danish Sweetheart".

When I first heard the song I wondered if the singer was speaking to a person that's no longer in her life or to herself—for all her youthful dreams and expectations she failed to live up to (very emo, I know).
With all the motion design I was experimenting with, I thought about creating something to feature my work updating the button design of Before You Buy (formerly Before You Bid).

I was inspired by companies releasing videos of their Design Systems. I hope to be part of an initiative that big soon.

3D design

design

I thought I'd integrate 3D into my portfolio to make things more interactive. My favorite things to create were the enamel pins. I wanted the TV to represent my love for watching shows and movies. As Marina and the Diamonds once said, "TV told me how to feel, now real life has no appeal" :P

I have Figma to thank for my start in UX. They had so much free content I could self-study to help me break into the industry. My humble beginnings was the starter that allowed me to work on products in the Philippines, Bahrain, the US, and Australia.

My first attempt playing with 3D was actually with Cinema4D. I was inspired by my friend who founded her own Pottery Studio—shoutout to Laro Ceramics!

There's something very poetic at the thought molding clay into anything.
